Jurgen Klopp: 'Bayern Munich move would have been complicated'

Jurgen Klopp reveals that he will take a one-year break from football when he leaves Liverpool, as he opens up on rumoured interest from Bayern Munich.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he did not consider leaving the club to join Bayern Munich as the switch would have been "complicated".

The 50-year-old, who has strong links with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, was briefly linked with the top job at the Allianz Arena prior to Niko Kovac's appointment earlier this week.

Klopp did not take the interest seriously, however, and the German has also revealed that he intends to take a year-long sabbatical when he does eventually leave Liverpool.

"It's possible that I will end my career a lot earlier than coaches usually do," he told Sky in Germany. "It's very intense. I don't want to die on the coaching bench. After Liverpool I will for sure do a one-year break. That's a clear agreement with my family. I've never had an exit clause in one of my contracts.

"If Bayern had really been interested, no matter what I would have done, this would have been a complicated move. I have a contract for four more years in Liverpool and the club are happy with me. That's why it makes total sense that [Bayern] didn't try. I don't really want to come back.

"That time was too good. I won't work as a coach with the age of [Bayern boss] Jupp Heynckes. I admire what he is doing but I won't do that. I had a fantastic time in Mainz and Dortmund. Most likely I will go back there - but not necessarily as a coach."

Klopp signed a contract extension with Liverpool in 2016 that will keep him in place until 2022.
