Manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Liverpool could benefit from losing to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside giants suffered a late defeat in Naples to extend their winless streak to three matches ahead of the Premier League showdown with Manchester City.
However, Klopp has suggested that he is confident of an instant response from his squad in their top-of-the-table clash with last season's champions.
At a press conference, Klopp told reporters: "We have to start anew. This is a different opponent and a different challenge – an even bigger one. My faith in the team is so great. We want to show a reaction.
"I didn't want to lose at Napoli but if you ask me what is the best preparation mood-wise, it is losing a game. We don't want to have that feeling again."
Liverpool and City both sit level on points in the standings ahead of the match at Anfield.
