Jurgen Klopp "not happy" with Liverpool performance

Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool's defensive showing against Manchester United, but admits that his side were far from their best in an attacking sense at Anfield.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he felt his side failed to stick to their gameplan and lacked patience in their stalemate with rivals Manchester United.

The Reds tested opposition goalkeeper David de Gea just three times in a match that lacked any real attacking quality, as they failed to pick up the win required to move joint-top of the division.

Klopp concedes that the goalless affair - just the second even between these two teams in the Premier League - will not live long in the memory, but says it could have turned out a lot worse had Zlatan Ibrahimovic buried his one big chance.

"I am not frustrated but I am not happy with the performance," he told BBC Sport. "No-one will show this game in 10 or 20 years but we could have played better. It was a hectic game, interrupted here and there but we lost patience with our passing game. The attitude of my team was really good.

"We were ready to fight but when you can play better you have to. The kind of defence is difficult to play. The man marking is really difficult, they are stronger than us. We wasted energy in the first half for nothing, the second half was better and with fresher legs in second half could have created more.

"They had their chance - Ibrahimovic would usually score, but not today. We defended well and fought like you should expect but we can play better and be more patient, cool and calm. We get a point. It doesn't feel like the best thing but it is what we got."

Liverpool have now gone eight games without tasting defeat, with their only setback all season coming in a 2-0 defeat away at Burnley in August.
