Jamie Redknapp urges Liverpool to stand by manager Brendan Rodgers following the team's 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Former Premier League footballer Jamie Redknapp has urged Liverpool not to "panic" by sacking Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds have suffered back-to-back defeats in the league, the latest coming against arch rivals Manchester United in a 3-1 loss at Old Trafford.

With the Merseyside outfit winning just two of their five league games of the season so far, rumours over Rodgers's future have resurfaced.

"It is always damaging when Liverpool lose to Manchester United - it is a result that hurts," Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column. "Yes, it was a bad performance but this is no time to panic.

"Brendan Rodgers is under pressure and there are problems in that team. They are fragile at the back and I still feel they lack a creative central midfielder, but Rodgers has to be the man to try and solve those issues.

"There is no sense in sacking a manager so soon in a season. Jurgen Klopp is the elephant in the room but Liverpool backed Rodgers this summer. Now they have to stand by that decision."

The Reds will switch their attention to the Europa League this week when they take on Bordeaux in their first Group B match.
