John Arne Riise has revealed that he will return to Liverpool next year to complete his coaching qualifications.
The 36-year-old represented Liverpool between 2001 and 2008, making close to 350 appearances for the Reds.
Riise came out of retirement last year to represent Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League, but has since hung up his boots for good as he prepares to enter the next chapter of his career.
The Norwegian took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to announce that he would be returning to Liverpool in 2017 in order to complete his coaching qualifications.
"Can't wait for 2017. Going to be at the Liverpool Academy while taking my coaching badges. Exciting! Learning from all the great coaches," Riise tweeted. "Once a month I will be there and working with great coaches and players. A lot to learn and what better place than Liverpool."
Riise also represented the likes of AS Monaco, Roma, Fulham and APOEL during a well-travelled playing career.
