Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to Javier Manquillo after the defender enjoyed an "outstanding" debut in Sunday's 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds concluded their pre-season campaign in style by thumping the Bundesliga giants at Anfield yesterday.
The 20-year-old, who played some 85 minutes, only joined on loan from Atletico Madrid last week, and Rodgers is delighted with the youngster's contribution.
"Young Javier Manquillo was outstanding, at 20 and playing his first game at Anfield having only joined this week," he told the club's official website.
"He's the type of full-back I like - he can get tight to people, stop crosses and defend well, but also then has the energy to attack and get forward. He was very, very good."
Daniel Sturridge and Dejan Lovren helped the Merseysiders into a two-goal half-time lead, while Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson bagged second-half goals to enhance the victory.
