Brendan Rodgers: 'Daniel Sturridge should learn from Luis Suarez'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers backs Daniel Sturridge to improve if he studies the style of Luis Suarez.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has declared that Daniel Sturridge will improve markedly by studying the style and tenacity of Luis Suarez.

Sturridge has enjoyed a fine start to life at Anfield after joining from Chelsea in January, scoring five times for the Reds in nine appearances.

Rodgers believes that Sturridge will benefit from watching Suarez at close quarters and copying his willingness to press defenders high up the pitch.

He told Sky Sports News: "For me the striker drives the train, and when you look at the history of this club, men like Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish and Robbie Fowler worked incredibly hard.

"Luis does that too. He is a great leader, the way he presses up there. He has an absolutely amazing appetite for the game.

"Daniel's only just come to the club and it's a new way of working for him. But it's so important because when you don't have the pressure up top, the gaps open up. He's only 23 and knows he needs to improve, but he's a real receptive boy, and he can't have anyone better to learn from than Luis."

The Reds are seventh in the Premier League ahead of tomorrow's trip to Aston Villa.
