Graeme Souness: 'Injury-hit Liverpool must alter training style'

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes that the club's recent spate of hamstring injuries is down to Jurgen Klopp's high-tempo style of play.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has suggested that the high-tempo style employed by Jurgen Klopp is a reason behind the club's lengthy injury list.

The Reds have 12 first-team players sidelined through various injuries, although the most common of them is a hamstring strain, which six players are currently suffering from.

Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren last night joined a list that already includes Daniel Sturridge, Martin Skrtel, Divock Origi and Jordan Rossiter, and Souness believes that Liverpool must alter their training methods in order to limit the strain put on players.

"The high press he wants, it's hard work to do it for 90 minutes. It's a big demand on your legs," he told Sky Sports News.

"I just think they've fallen foul of that. It's not a coincidence to have five hamstrings at one time. I think they have to look at what they're doing in training."

Despite the injuries to Coutinho and Lovren, Liverpool went on to beat Stoke City 1-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
