Ben Woodburn: 'There is a pathway to the first team at Liverpool'

After signing a new long-term contract, Ben Woodburn says that Liverpool offer a "pathway" to the first team.

Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn has claimed that the club offer youngsters a chance as he attempts to force his way into the first team on a regular basis.

The 18-year-old signed a new long-term deal on Wednesday, less than 12 months after he made his debut for the Merseyside outfit.

Since then, Woodburn has become the club's youngest ever goalscorer and found the back of the net in a World Cup qualifier on his senior debut for Wales.

Last season, the teenager made five Premier League appearances under manager Jurgen Klopp and in the current campaign featured once in the EFL Cup.

"I feel like at this club, there is a pathway to the first team and you get given chances here," Woodburn told the club's official website. "I've played for the first team, but I still want more of it. I've got a lot more to give, so I want to show what I can do.

"[Klopp and I have] got quite a strong relationship. I feel like he does trust me. I feel if he needs me, he will bring me on. Around the training ground he'll give you a high five, a hug or whatever. He's good with us young players. If you need to work on anything he will tell you and help you do that."

As part of the Under-18s squad, Woodburn works under coach Steven Gerrard, who spent 17 years at Liverpool as a player.
