Phil Jagielka rescued a point for Everton in spectacular fashion this afternoon as they drew 1-1 with Liverpool in a Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard had given the hosts the lead with a fine free kick midway through the second half, but Jagielka popped up with a sensational half-volley late on to ensure that the spoils were shared.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed, and who didn't, during another dramatic derby.

LIVERPOOL

Goal

Simon Mignolet: Was not troubled too much throughout, but showed decent handling on a couple of occasions. Could do nothing about the goal, despite his best efforts. (6/10)

Defence

Javi Manquillo: Solid display from the young full-back. Diligently stuck to his defensive duties and tried to stunt the influence of Baines. (6/10)

Dejan Lovren: Kept Lukaku quiet for large periods of the match, but nodded the ball down to the edge of the box for Jagielka's equaliser. (6/10)

Martin Skrtel: Quiet game as he joined Lovren in dealing with Lukaku. Had one or two decent moments on the ball, including one cross that almost led to a goal. (6/10)

Alberto Moreno: Was up and down the left flank tirelessly. Got excitable on a few occasions and conceded a late free kick that could have led to an Everton winner, but on the whole had a decent afternoon. (7/10)

Midfield

Steven Gerrard: Scored his side's goal with a fine free kick and enjoyed more freedom in his deep role throughout. Didn't have a player assigned to mark him and subsequently had a bigger say on the game. (7/10)

Jordan Henderson: A typically busy performance in midfield, giving Liverpool plenty of energy when they needed it. Played a couple of incisive passes in the first half. (7/10)

Lazar Markovic: Really struggled to make an impact. Had enough chances to make contributions in the final third but always seemed to lose the ball. (5/10)

Raheem Sterling: A little quieter than in recent weeks but still a good performance. Gave Hibbert the runaround at times and created some good openings for his side. (7/10)

Adam Lallana: Worked tirelessly all game and never gave the defence a moment of rest. Worked well off the ball to pressure and also threatened in possession himself. (7/10)

Attack

Mario Balotelli: Very much a mixed bag. Had plenty of shots, but most were speculative efforts from range. Hit the crossbar shortly after Gerrard's goal, but should have scored. (5/10)

Substitutes

Philippe Coutinho: Changed the game when he replaced Markovic on the hour mark. Pulled the strings in midfield and was a large reason behind Liverpool's control of the game before they sat back. (7/10)

Rickie Lambert: Came on with just two minutes remaining and had no time to make an impact. (6/10)

EVERTON

Goal

Tim Howard: Was forced into a number of saves, including one world-class stop to deny Balotelli from close range. Got a hand to Gerrard's free kick, but would have done well to keep it out. (7/10)

Defence

Tony Hibbert: Struggled against the pace of Sterling having been given a rare start. Tried to use his experience against the youngster, but came off comfortably second best in that battle. (5/10)

John Stones: Had one or two shaky moments in defence, but on the whole played well. Kept Balotelli at bay for large periods of the match in an improved performance. (6/10)

Phil Jagielka: Similar to Stones for much of the match, but then popped up with a magnificent equaliser that earns him an extra point all by itself. A good response to recent criticism. (7/10)

Leighton Baines: Solid display from Baines, who made a couple of decent bursts forward. Had one of Everton's best chances when his pass back inside was cleared away, but disappointed with a few set piece deliveries. (6/10)

Midfield

James McCarthy: Combative performance in the middle of the park. Provided a good screen for the defence and kept things ticking over in midfield. (6/10)

Muhamed Besic: Took a couple of risks defensively, one of which almost led to a penalty at the start of the second half, but generally had a solid game. (6/10)

Gareth Barry: Had an eventful start to the match, being booked in the second minute and then surviving a clear penalty shout for handball. Did ease his way back into the game and kept himself out of trouble well after that, however. (5/10)

Steven Naismith: Certainly not the best performance of his impressive season, but didn't particularly do anything wrong. Had one strike from range easily saved but, aside from that, struggled to get into the match. (6/10)

Kevin Mirallas: Only lasted half an hour before being stretchered off with what looks like a hamstring injury. Could be out of action for a couple of weeks. (6/10)

Attack

Romelu Lukaku: Struggled to get into the game having been well marshalled by the Liverpool defence. Gave the ball away on a number of occasions and missed his one chance when it came his way. (5/10)

Substitutes

Aiden McGeady: Replaced the injured Mirallas after half an hour and threatened on occasions with his direct running. Did nothing to really worry the Liverpool goal, though. (6/10)

Tyias Browning: Replaced Hibbert for the final 20 minutes and looked fairly comfortable for a youngster. Dealt with Sterling better than the man he replaced. (6/10)

Samuel Eto'o: Looked to inject a bit of magic into the Everton attack with 10 minutes remaining and showed a few flashes without coming up with anything really substantial. (6/10)
