How Everton could line up for their first game back

Sports Mole looks at how Everton could line up for their first match back after lockdown, when they are expected to face Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Everton will square off against Merseyside rivals Liverpool on their return to the Premier League looking to end a three-match winless streak.

While there have been more positives than negatives from Carlo Ancelotti's opening months at Goodison Park, their recent run has left the Toffees in 12th position.

Despite the enforced break, the Italian also finds himself with a number of fitness issues, two of which have occurred since the team's return to training.

With that in mind, Sports Mole predicts how Everton could line up for the showdown with their neighbours, which will be staged between June 19 and June 21.

Out: Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Achilles), Yerry Mina (thigh)
Doubtful: Morgan Schneiderlin (knee)

Everton were dealt a blow earlier this week when Yerry Mina sustained a thigh injury, which is expected to keep the Colombia international out of contention against Liverpool.

Despite their performances during the 4-0 defeat at Chelsea, that should mean that Michael Keane and Mason Holgate retain their places in the starting lineup.

Ancelotti used a 4-4-2 formation at Stamford Bridge, and his side's dismal display is likely to lead to more caution being shown against the league leaders.

Alex Iwobi could be brought back into the fold, potentially on the right flank, with Richarlison reverting back to his familiar left-wing role over starting down the middle.

That would allow Gylfi Sigurdsson to return to the centre of the pitch, rather than being deployed in a position where he is less comfortable and would likely see him having to contend with Trent Alexander-Arnold's attacking threat.

Everton had hoped to have Jean-Philippe Gbamin as an option for the centre of defence or midfield, but the summer addition will miss the rest of 2020 with an Achilles injury.

Morgan Schneiderlin is also expected to remain out of contention until after the restart.
