How Liverpool could line up against West Bromwich Albion

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Sunday's Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.

Liverpool will be looking to follow up last weekend's 7-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace by pouring more misery on struggling West Bromwich Albion when the two sides meet at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds recorded their biggest-ever away top-flight victory at Selhurst Park last time out - a result which saw them move four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool boast a flawless home record this season too, while their unbeaten run at Anfield now stands at 66 games, although the last visiting manager to come away with a league victory was Sam Allardyce, who is now in charge of the Baggies.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could set his side out for the contest.

Out: Virgil van Dijk (knee), Joe Gomez (knee), Diogo Jota (knee), Kostas Tsimikas (knee), Thiago Alcantara (knee)
Doubtful: James Milner (hamstring), Xherdan Shaqiri (muscle)

The buildup to the New Year has brought with it hope that Liverpool's injury problems could soon ease, with a trio of players returning to training this week.

Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri were all back on the training pitch on Wednesday and could provide Klopp a welcome boost to his options over the busy festive period.

Sunday will come too soon for Thiago to make his long-anticipated return, but Milner and Shaqiri could be involved in some capacity.

The champions are still short at the back, though, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas among those still sidelined for the long term.

The major change from the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace could see Mohamed Salah return to the side, after he was rested from the start at Selhurst Park but still managed to score two goals and create another off the bench.

The Egyptian has scored nine goals and created six more in 10 Premier League home games against newly-promoted sides, including a hat-trick against Leeds United on the opening day of this season.

Whether Klopp chooses to rotate elsewhere remains to be seen, but Liverpool will have had eight days since their last game and have a kinder fixture schedule than others between Christmas and New Year.

Roberto Firmino will hope to lead the line having doubled his tally of goal involvements for the season over the past two games, while Sadio Mane's angry reaction to being taken off at Crystal Palace suggests that he will be desperate to start again too.

Curtis Jones will be pushing for a recall, while Klopp may consider keeping his centre-back pairing of Joel Matip and Fabinho as fresh as possible for bigger tests ahead, but otherwise changes are likely to be at a minimum.
