How Liverpool could line up against West Ham United

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for their Premier League showdown with West Ham United on Saturday evening.

Liverpool will be looking to win their fourth game in succession when they welcome an in-form West Ham United outfit to Anfield for Saturday's Premier League showdown.

Jurgen Klopp's men have picked up three victories from three fixtures against Ajax, Sheffield United and FC Midtjylland recently, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah on target against the latter as the Reds triumphed over the Danish outfit 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, the Reds must now navigate a challenging fixture against a West Ham side unbeaten in their last four, and Klopp has a number of injury problems and selection dilemmas to contend with for the visit of the Hammers.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Saturday's meeting with West Ham.

Out: Virgil van Dijk (knee), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), Kostas Tsimikas (thigh)
Doubtful: Fabinho (hamstring), Joel Matip (muscle), Thiago Alcantara (knee), Naby Keita (unspecified)

As if Liverpool did not have enough defensive concerns with Virgil van Dijk potentially out for the season, the Reds were forced to witness the sombre sight of Fabinho limping off injured against Midtjylland.

The Brazilian was filling in as a makeshift centre-back alongside Joe Gomez before having to end his participation early with a suspected hamstring injury, and while the seriousness of Fabinho's injury is yet to be determined, he is highly unlikely to be involved at the weekend.

With Joel Matip also questionable, 19-year-old Rhys Williams could follow up his Champions League outing with a first-ever Premier League start in front of Alisson, whose quick return to the fold has been a huge boost for Liverpool amid a daunting run of fixtures.

Fears also arose over the fitness of Jordan Henderson, who lasted 45 minutes against Midtjylland before being replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum, but Klopp confirmed that the Englishman's substitution was pre-planned and he will be fine to start on Saturday.

Wijnaldum is expected to return to his familiar position in Liverpool's midfield three, meaning that Xherdan Shaqiri will probably drop back down to the bench, and James Milner is also likely to start again with Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita both doubtful for the weekend.

The formidable attacking trio of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all occupied spots on the bench in midweek, and with two challenging fixtures against Atalanta and Manchester City to come, Klopp has big decisions to make when it comes to who will feature from the first whistle against West Ham.

However, the prolific front three are all likely to start here regardless, and while Salah was pictured hobbling down the tunnel after Tuesday's win, the Egyptian's issue is not thought to be serious and he is expected to return to the fold at the weekend.
