A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Merseyside Police on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence at Liverpool's match against Oldham Athletic on Friday night.
Oldham's Tom Adeyemi appeared visibly upset towards the end of the game after something was alleged to have been shouted at him by a fan in the Kop end of the stadium.
The man, who is believed to be from the Aintree area of Liverpool, is currently being interviewed by detectives in custody.
Merseyside Police confirmed after the match that they would be launching an investigation into the incident.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was recently fined and banned for eight matches after he was found guilty by the Football Association of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during a match in October.
