Liverpool and Manchester City pick up a point each in a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon.

Liverpool and Manchester City have played out a 2-2 draw at the Etithad Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon.

Both sides started the game in an attacking mood, David Silva forcing a save from Pepe Reina in the opening two minutes of the game, before Daniel Sturridge had an effort blocked on the line by Pablo Zabaleta.

Edin Dzeko broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, firing in a James Milner cross from inside the six-yard box.

Liverpool were level again six minutes later when Sturridge fired the ball in from just outside the penalty area, becoming the first player in 2013 to beat Joe Hart.

Javi Garcia spurned a chance for the Premier League champions early in the second half, heading a David Silva corner well high of the crossbar.

An end-to-end spell saw Luis Suarez curl a shot wide, before Gareth Barry headed the ball over at the other end of the pitch.

Steven Gerrard picked up the ball around 25 yards out in the 74th minute, controlling it with his chest before lashing it beyond Hart to put Liverpool ahead for the first time in the match.

The Liverpool captain had a chance to set up a third goal for the visitors moments later, but Sturridge flicked his cross just wide.

The miss proved costly moments later as Sergio Aguero squeezed the ball in from the tightest of angles past Reina to level the scores.

Sturridge forced a late save from Hart, while Roberto Mancini's side forced a corner deep in stoppage time but Liverpool cleared the ball.

The result means that City are now nine points behind Manchester United in the Premier League table, while Liverpool remain seventh, five points behind Arsenal.
