Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Burnley

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Burnley.
Sports Mole

Out to right some North London wrongs, Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield on Saturday afternoon for their latest Premier League affair.

The Reds came out on the losing side of last weekend's enticing showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates, going down 3-1 courtesy of goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

While Jurgen Klopp's side are still looking down on the rest of the division, they are only two points clear of Arsenal and Manchester City, the latter of whom boast a match in hand.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the visit of Burnley, who fought back from two goals down to hold Fulham to a 2-2 draw last time out.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Reason for absence: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Thiago Alcantara came off the bench against Arsenal following 10 months out with a hip injury, but he suffered a fresh muscular problem during his short time on the Emirates pitch and will spend an unspecified amount of time back on the sidelines.

Ben Doak

Status: Out
Reason for absence: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Teenage attacker Ben Doak suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Under-21s last year, and he remains out of contention for the time being.

Dominik Szoboszlai

Status: Out
Reason for absence: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

On the eve of Liverpool's clash with Arsenal, rumours began circulating on social media that Dominik Szoboszlai was absent from the squad. True enough, the Hungary international was not involved in the clash due to a hamstring injury, and there are no guarantees that he will return before the end of the month.

Conor Bradley

Status: Out
Reason for absence: Personal
Possible return date: Unknown

Up-and-coming right-back Conor Bradley also missed the defeat to the Gunners due to the tragic death of his father, and as is the case with Szoboszlai, he will not be involved on Saturday either.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: February 17 (vs. Brentford)

Mohamed Salah remains on the road to recovery from the muscular issue he sustained at the Africa Cup of Nations, and while he is expected to exit the infirmary at some point in February, Saturday's game will come too soon for the Egyptian.

Wataru Endo

Status: Minor doubt
Reason for absence: International duty
Possible return date: February 10 (vs. Burnley)

Wataru Endo's Japan were eliminated from the Asian Cup before the loss to Arsenal, although the turnaround was too quick for the midfielder to take part in that clash. However, Klopp should have him back at his disposal for the visit of the Clarets.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

In contrast, Joel Matip remains on the long road to rehabilitation from the ACL injury he sustained against Fulham in December, and if the Cameroonian's contract is not extended, he may have represented Liverpool for the final time.

Kostas Tsimikas

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Collarbone
Possible return date: February 10 (vs. Burnley)

Kostas Tsimikas's recovery from a collarbone fracture is on track, and he has been pictured in team training ahead of this game, suggesting that a comeback is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Stefan Bajcetic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

The luckless Stefan Bajcetic saw his 2022-23 season curtailed by an adductor injury, and the youngster is still dealing with a troublesome calf problem - which will keep him out of this game - but there is hope that he will be back in training at some point this month.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Ibrahima Konate

Return date: February 17 (vs. Brentford)

Ibrahima Konate was given his marching orders in the defeat at the Emirates for two bookable offences, meaning that the Frenchman will serve a one-match suspension this weekend.
