Sought-after defender Toby Alderweireld has followed in the footsteps of his Ajax teammate Christian Eriksen by insisting that he will not let finances dictate his choice of destination this summer.
Both players are expected to leave the Dutch champions during this transfer window, and Spartak Moscow have made an approach for Belgian international Alderweireld, who has also been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.
Eriksen, himself an apparent target of Spurs, has revealed that he rebuffed his own lucrative offer from Russia, and Alderweireld has stressed that he too will make a decision based on footballing reasons.
"I now understand that [Spartak] have made Ajax an offer for me," he told reporters. "Only when the clubs are granted permission [to talk to me] will I think
"I've always said that I will seriously look at each option. Those who know me, know that I will never choose just for the money but for the image and history of the team."
Spartak are 4/7 favourites with SkyBet to sign the 24-year-old, who can play in both central defence and at right-back. Spurs and Everton can be backed at 4/1, with Liverpool outsiders at 7/1.
