Benfica have reportedly rejected West Ham United's bid to sign striker Darwin Nunez.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a leading target for David Moyes, who is desperate to land an attacking player before the 11pm deadline.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers have seen a formal bid for Nunez rejected, and they will now consider tabling an improved offer.
However, Sheth adds that a deal to lure the Uruguay international to the London Stadium is looking increasingly unlikely with less than 12 hours remaining in the window.
West Ham are also unlikely to join the race for Liverpool's Divock Origi, while they are set to miss out on Newcastle United-bound Hugo Ekitike.
Nunez has been a standout performer for Benfica this campaign, scoring 20 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. body check tags ::
