Fabio Borini has been injured playing for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly against Roma.
The Italian striker was substituted in the 12th minute and replaced by Emre Can after suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder.
The injury could impact on Borini's proposed move to Sunderland, with the Black Cats recently claiming to have agreed personal terms with the player.
Borini, who spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, was said to be on the brink of completing a £14m move to the North East club.
