Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is reportedly set to be rewarded with a new-and-improved contract at Anfield.

The 19-year-old has now broken into the first team after joining the club's youth ranks from Fulham in 2019, making 22 appearances in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Elliott has banked one goal and two assists in that time, although his 2021-22 season was derailed by a serious ankle injury sustained against Leeds United.

Elliott nevertheless recovered to make 11 appearances, and he also amassed seven goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances during a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in 2020-21.

The teenager only signed an extension at Anfield until the summer of 2026 last year, but according to the Daily Mail, he is soon set to agree to new and improved terms.

The report adds that Liverpool are determined to secure Elliott's long-term future, and he can expect a pay rise with his fresh terms in the wake of his strong development.

The England Under-21 international was brought to Merseyside for a £1.5m fee three years ago and played 39 minutes against his former club in Saturday's opening 2-2 Premier League draw.

Elliott could soon be thrust into the limelight amid Liverpool's midfield injury woes, with Thiago Alcantara set for at least a month out of action with a hamstring injury.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is out for the long-term with an issue in the same area, while Curtis Jones also missed the clash with Fulham, and Naby Keita is recovering from an illness.

Elliott could therefore be competing with the likes of James Milner, Keita and Jones to join Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the midfield, with Jurgen Klopp playing down his side's chances of dipping into the transfer market for reinforcements.

"I know what will now come up, it's clear. We said we don't need a midfielder because we have enough - and we actually have enough, but the problem now is we get punished for something that is not our responsibility really because things like this can happen," Klopp told reporters after the 2-2 draw with Fulham.

"Nobody could imagine that Curtis gets the thing he gets; it is nothing serious but he is a young boy and it is a kind of stress reaction. Bodies are like this. Naby is only ill and he will now be back definitely next week again. Oxlade happened early and now with Thiago that is, of course, not good and we will see.

"Look, a transfer must make sense now and in the long term; we have midfielders, we have still enough midfielders. It is not that we lack midfielders, but it's just some of them are injured.

"This is not a good situation, I don't like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that - but for sure not panicking."

Liverpool have already agreed new deals with Milner, Joe Gomez, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota this summer, and 17-year-old defender Stefan Bajcetic confirmed that he had agreed fresh terms on Wednesday.
