Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he could keep Joe Gomez at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.
The 20-year-old defender has been linked with a loan move to Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion having made just three senior appearances for the club following his return to fitness last season - all of which came in the FA Cup.
However, Klopp believes that Gomez's versatility could prove to be an asset for the side and, having been impressed by the youngster during pre-season, is in no rush to make a decision over his future.
"The window is open until August 31 so we will see what is best for the player. Joe is another player who is now in the best shape since I have been in. It's very positive," Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.
"Joe can also play the full-back positions. He played there at Wigan with no training. We need him also in offensive situations. With Clyney (Nathaniel Clyne) and Milly (James Milner) injured, it's important we have more options there.
"Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is a fantastic player but he's young. The situation at the moment is intense for everyone but you can imagine what it's like for a young boy. It's good to have Joe around."
Gomez has featured in all four of Liverpool's pre-season friendlies so far this summer.
