Liverpool have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner during the January transfer window.
While the Merseyside giants are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp could still opt to strengthen his squad at the midway point of the campaign.
Werner has allegedly been a long-term target for the German, and Bleacher Report claims that an official approach could be made in the coming months.
However, the report adds that the 23-year-old would have to be content with playing backup to Liverpool's established front three if he moved to Anfield this season.
With Werner having contributed 13 goals and four assists from regular starts in the Bundesliga and Champions League, that is a scenario which may be rejected by the attacker.
RB Leipzig are also likely to be against parting ways with their key men before the summer.
