Liverpool are reportedly attempting to secure a season-long loan deal for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.
For much of the summer transfer window, Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he does not need to add another central midfielder to his squad.
However, with a number of players for that position having spent time on the sidelines during the early weeks of the campaign, the Liverpool boss has performed a U-turn.
The Merseyside giants have since been linked with a wide array of potential arrivals, including Douglas Luiz, but Aston Villa say that they will not be parting ways with the Brazilian on deadline day.
Nevertheless, according to Sky Italia, Liverpool are making an attempt to sign Luiz's Brazilian compatriot Arthur.
The report claims that the two clubs are currently locked in negotiations ahead of the player travelling to the North West of England later on Thursday.
Arthur is yet to make a single appearance for Juventus this season, a clear indication that he does not feature in the plans of Massimiliano Allegri.
That may have changed had Adrien Rabiot left Turin to sign for Manchester United, but the Frenchman has since regained his spot in the starting lineup on the back of that transfer breaking down.
Instead, it appears that Juventus officials are happy to get Arthur off their wage bill, particularly with Leandro Paredes having joined from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.
Much was expected of the 26-year-old when he left Barcelona for Juventus in September 2020, and he has still made 34 starts and 28 substitute appearances in all competitions.
Nevertheless, the move has not worked out as well as each party had anticipated, and Arthur is now in line to get an opportunity to ply his trade in England.
Arsenal and Chelsea have each been linked with his signature in the past before opting against pushing through with a deal. body check tags ::
