Liverpool are reportedly in discussions with Schalke 04 over a January move for Ozan Kabak.
The Reds are expected to be without Virgil van Dijk for the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury, meaning that a new central defender is likely to arrive at Anfield during the winter transfer window.
Kabak has seemingly emerged as the club's leading target, and according to The Mirror, the Premier League champions have now opened talks with Schalke over a January deal.
The report claims that the German club value the 20-year-old at £30m, but Liverpool are hoping to agree a deal that would see them pay an initial £20m with the rest in add-ons.
Kabak, who was linked with Manchester United last year, joined Schalke from Stuttgart in the summer of 2019 and has made 30 appearances for the Royal Blues in all competitions.
Brazilian midfielder Fabinho again played in central defence during Saturday's 2-1 win over Sheffield United.
