Liverpool have reportedly made their first official contact with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara over a possible summer switch to Anfield.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old for a number of weeks now, although a formal approach had not previously occurred and more recent reports poured doubt on the likelihood of a deal taking place.
However, German outlet Bild reports that Liverpool have now begun negotiations, with Bayern having already publicly admitted that Thiago wants to leave.
The two clubs are thought to be some way apart on a transfer fee, with Liverpool having initially been hopeful of a £20m deal but Bayern wanting at least £30m.
Both parties are now set for another round of talks as Jurgen Klopp's side look to make a second summer signing following the arrival of left-back Kostas Tsimikas.
Thiago is part of the Bayern Munich side which has made it all the way to the Champions League quarter-finals, with the Spain international making 37 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
