Liverpool's hopes of signing Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij have been dealt a blow after the youngster committed himself to the Dutch side.
The 21-year-old's impressive displays have seen him linked with a number of European clubs this summer, with Liverpool holding a firm interest.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his defensive options following the retirement of Jamie Carragher and was hoping to add De Vrij to his squad in the transfer window.
However, the highly-rated centre-back has revealed that he will be honouring his contract.
"I just renewed my contract with Feyenoord, so I will play for them next year," De Vrij told reporters.
Rodgers has already signed Kolo Toure on a free transfer as he looks to fill the gap left by Carragher.
