Liverpool deny plans to sell Luis Suarez

Liverpool reject suggestions that the club want to sell striker Luis Suarez in the summer, despite his controversial bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has insisted that Luis Suarez's future at Anfield is not under question, despite the striker controversially biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Doubts over the Uruguay international's position at the Merseyside club arose yesterday after the 26-year-old bit the arm of Ivanovic during the Reds' 2-2 draw with the Blues.

When asked whether the incident will affect Suarez's future at the club, Ayre told the club's official website: "Not at all. It affects his future in the sense that we have to work with him on his discipline, but Luis is a very important player to the club.

"He's a very popular player with his teammates. As we keep saying, he signed a new four-year contract last summer and we'd all love to see him here throughout that contract. He's a fantastic player, top scorer and everything we'd want in a striker, so there's no change there.

"This is more about getting him back on the right track and it's largely down to Brendan now to work with him on that side of his character."

Ayre also revealed that he has been in constant contact with Liverpool's American owners following the incident, and that, from the club's point of view, the matter has been 'put to rest'.

The Premier League outfit fined Suarez, who now awaits news from the Football Association with regards to a possible lengthy ban.
