Liverpool have shown an interest in signing Netherlands international defender Stefan de Vrij from Lazio, according to a report.
The 25-year-old has previously been linked with a switch to Manchester United, while Inter Milan and Juventus are said to have made enquiries during the summer transfer window.
De Vrij is now on the radar of Liverpool, according to Calciomercato, as he runs down the final nine months of his existing Lazio contract.
Talks over a new deal with the Italian club are understood to have broken down, paving the way for a straight shootout between the Reds, Inter and Juve for the free agent next summer.
Liverpool wanted to bring in Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk in time for the 2017-18 season, but they were scared off making a bid due to an illegal approach.
