Liverpool are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig over a deal for centre-back Ibrahima Konate, according to a report.
The Reds brought in Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies in the January window to compensate for the long-term injury absence of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.
Despite those additions, though, Jurgen Klopp is still believed to be looking to bring in another defender ahead of next season.
Konate, who can also fill in at right-back or right wing-back, is rumoured to be at the top of Klopp's wishlist.
The Athletic claims that Liverpool chiefs have been working on a deal behind the scenes and are close to agreeing a €40m (£34.1m) fee with Leipzig.
Konate's possible exit would leave the Bundesliga side with a massive void to fill, as central-defensive partner Dayot Upamecano is joining Bayern Munich in July.
Liverpool's domestic rivals Chelsea were also believed to be keen on striking a deal for the France Under-21s international.
