Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Jamie Carragher has a future at the club.
The 34-year-old defender has appeared over 700 times for the Merseysiders since he made his debut in 1999.
"I've been so impressed by Carra on and off the field," said Rodgers. "I think he can play on. There is no doubt. He's one of the guys who is the soul of the club and there has to be a place for someone like him. Whether he wants to do it, that is another thing.
"There's no doubt there's maybe that role beyond playing for him later on, but for me, what he has given me in these opening few months there is no reason he can't play on for a few more years yet."
Carragher, who has one year left on his current deal at Anfield, will captain the side against Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday.
