Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is very keen to keep hold of Maxi Rodriguez this summer.
The 31-year-old Argentinean midfielder cannot speak English and is reportedly unsettled on Merseyside following a disappointing season in 2011-12.
Rodriguez has been linked with a return to his homeland to play for Newell's Old Boys, but Rodgers is hopeful that he will stay at Anfield.
"I have known about Maxi for a long time," explained Rodgers. "He is experienced, a very good player and he will understand 120% about the way I want us to play.
"I would like him to stay, but sometimes there are issues that surround that and I understand that - which is why I am speaking to him now.
"But I would love to have him here, I think he is a very good player. Whether it was starting or coming off the bench, he would be very good for our squad, because he understands what we want."
Rodriguez has made 57 Premier League appearances since joining the Reds in January 2010, scoring 15 goals.
