Liverpool have made a surprise late bid to hijack Wesley Sneijder's move to Galatasaray, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has been locked in talks with the Turkish giants for the past 48 hours after Inter Milan accepted an £8m offer, but the Dutchman is thought to prefer a move to one of Europe's biggest leagues.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Sneijder and has instructed managing director Ian Ayre to make contact with the club's owners to see if a deal is possible, according to the Sunday People.
Sneijder's wages are a stumbling block to any potential deal, with his current contract at the San Siro thought to be worth around £160,000 per week.
Inter president Massimo Moratti offered Sneijder a paycut last month, which was swiftly rejected, and he is now desperate to offload the playmaker before the transfer window closes.
