Virgil van Dijk has reportedly informed Southampton that he is desperate to join Liverpool after seeing a proposed move to the club break down earlier this summer.
The Netherlands international was on the verge of sealing a £60m switch to Anfield in June, only for the deal to collapse due to the Reds supposedly tapping-up the centre-back.
Liverpool were forced to issue an apology and publicly withdrew their interest in the 26-year-old, but it is understood that Jurgen Klopp is still keen to land his top defensive target.
It is claimed by The Sun that Van Dijk, who recently returned to the south coast for pre-season duty, is pushing for a summer exit in the hope of joining the Merseyside outfit.
Van Dijk is rumoured to also be on the radar of Arsenal and Manchester City, however, and Liverpool risk losing out unless they make a second approach soon.
