Georginio Wijnaldum puts pressure on Liverpool to provide contract update

Liverpool midfielder and soon-to-be free agent Georginio Wijnaldum insists that the club should be the ones to provide any updates on his Anfield future.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum believes that the club should do the talking when it comes to updates on his contract situation.

The former Newcastle United man has entered the final six months of his deal with the Premier League champions, and little progress has been made with regards to a renewal.

Speculation over a potential move to Barcelona - and reunion with Ronald Koeman - is rife, and Wijnaldum has since insisted that he should not be the one to comment on his future.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Wijnaldum said: "There is no update yet. I also think I am not the one who should give the update, the club should. If there will be an update the club will give it."

Despite his unresolved contract situation, the 30-year-old remains an integral cog of Jurgen Klopp's machine with 25 appearances across all competitions this season, including 16 Premier League starts.

Lille's Renato Sanches and Udinese's Rodrigo De Paul have both been mentioned as possible replacements should Wijnaldum indeed head for the exit door this summer. body check tags ::
