Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup this summer.
The 23-year-old secured a lucrative switch from boyhood club Brondby to the Italian outfit during the summer transfer window of 2022 and has since made 89 appearances.
Frendrup impressed as he operated in a defensive-midfield role for Genoa last season, scoring two goals and providing five assists across 37 Serie A matches.
Despite earning glowing reviews from enjoyers of the Italian game, the midfielder was not selected as part of Kasper Hjulmand's Denmark squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.
Regardless, Frendrup still possesses relative international pedigree, having represented his nation on 10 occasions at Under-21 level since 2021.
Liverpool impressed by Genoa's Frendrup?
According to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool are contemplating whether to make a summer move for the services of Genoa's Frendrup before the end of the transfer window.
The report states that the Reds sent scouts to Italy during the final months of the Serie A season to keep a close eye on the progress of the 23-year-old.
It is understood that Liverpool were left impressed by what they witnessed from Frendrup, who helped Genoa finish 11th in the Italian top flight.
Alongside Arne Slot's side, it is believed that fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are keen on a move for the Dane.
With a number of English vultures circling around the talented Frendrup, Genoa are said to value the midfielder at £21m, a price which is unlikely to deter interest.
Liverpool edging closer to first Slot signing?
Following the end of Jurgen Klopp's nine-year reign at Anfield, Liverpool are yet to seal their first player arrival of a new era under Slot.
The Reds' attention has been on signing a top-class defensive midfielder, with Frendrup potentially fitting that bill after his promising 24 months at Genoa.
However, it is also understood that Liverpool are interested in Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, who is now expected to join the Premier League heavyweights before the end of the window.
Should Wataru Endo stay put, it is questionable whether the Reds need both Euro 2024 winner Zubimendi and Frendrup through the door ahead of the new campaign. body check tags ::
