Liverpool have reportedly submitted an opening offer to sign 23-year-old Danish midfielder Morten Frendrup from Serie A club Genoa.
The Arne Slot era at Anfield has got off to a slow start, as the Reds are the only remaining Premier League team yet to make a signing this summer.
Frendrup has made significant strides forward since joining Genoa from Brondby IF in January 2022, establishing himself as a key player for Il Grifone over the past two and a half years.
He has now made nearly 100 appearances for Genoa, contributing four goals and six assists, and is widely regarded as one of Serie A's top young talents.
The 23-year-old' impressive development at the Serie A club has drawn attention from several prominent clubs across Europe, including the likes of the Reds and Aston Villa.
Liverpool submit offer for Genoa's Frendrup
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Liverpool are leading the race to sign the Dane and have already made an initial offer in the region of £21m to bring him to Anfield this summer.
The report adds that Alberto Gilardino had stated earlier in the transfer window that Frendrup is considered "unsellable" this summer, but the club have not officially turned down the Reds' offer as yet.
It is understood that Frendrup is viewed by the Premier League giants as a potential replacement for Wataru Endo, who has been heavily linked with a move to Marseille in recent weeks.
New Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi is said to have already tested the water for the Japan international with a bid of around £12m, which the Reds are reportedly considering.
Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old but may need to sell an existing player to afford a deal having already signed Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen this offseason.
More Liverpool departures expected this summer?
While transfer business has been slow at Anfield so far this summer, there have been some notable outgoings and a few more potential departures on the horizon.
The Reds saw the exits of Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian in the offseason, and there are suggestions that centre-back Sepp van den Berg is currently of interest to PSV Eindhoven.
Football 365 report that the Eredivisie side had made an offer of around £8.4m for the former PEC Zwolle defender last week, but the Reds swiftly turned it down as they value the player closer to £20m.
Van den Berg arrived at Anfield for just £1m at the start of the 2019-20 season but has only made four first-team appearances, and has been sent on three separate loan spells. body check tags ::
