Adam Lallana insists that he will battle for a place in England's World Cup squad despite spending most of Liverpool's season out with injuries.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has insisted that he will work hard to earn a spot in the England squad for this summer's World Cup in Russia.

The 29-year-old did not take part in the Three Lions' 1-0 win over the Netherlands, but he did play in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Italy.

The international friendlies gave manager Gareth Southgate a chance to assess his options for the World Cup, and even though Lallana has played in just 12 games for Liverpool this season due to muscular injuries, he is determined to get selected.

"I'm fully fit now," the midfielder told reporters. "I had to manage myself probably for the first couple of days, hence why I wasn't involved over in Holland, but it's been a great end to the week personally.

"It's great to be back out there in an England shirt for the first time this season since last summer. I'm confident enough in my own ability and what I bring to the squad. I'm smart enough not to be complacent and to know that there's plenty of talented players that want to make the squad, even lads who aren't here today."

Lallana has 34 caps to his name.
