Carlos Alberto Parreira has insisted that Lucas Leiva can earn a place in Brazil's squad for this summer's World Cup.
The Liverpool midfielder has recently returned to action with his club following a spell out with a knee injury.
The host nation's technical director told Sky Sports News: "I have talked with Lucas Leiva, we hope he plays at a high level again so we can think of calling him up for the World Cup.
"There is nothing certain yet, but he is a player we have called up previously who did well and then was unlucky and got injured.
"You saw that bad luck happened with Victor Valdes and Radamel Falcao and it will happen again until the World Cup, but hopefully not with us."
Brazil will play Croatia in the opening match of the tournament in June.
