Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Livingston and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Livingston host Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night in a rearranged fixture, following a postponement before the New Year.

The Lions have won their last eight matches in all competitions, while the Dons have lost just four of their 21 top-flight games this campaign.

Match preview

Livingston's impressive run of form continued last Sunday as they secured a 3-1 home victory against struggling Ross County.

With the scores level heading into the final 10 minutes, late strikes from substitutes Alan Forrest and Jack Hamilton confirmed the three points for David Martindale's side, moving them within six points of Hibernian in fourth place.

Since Gary Holt's resignation at the end of November, the Lions have won each of their last six league games under Martindale, who became the first boss since Neil Lennon in 2010 to win his first six top-flight matches in charge.

While things are going better than he could have imagined on the pitch, Martindale is now awaiting news from the Scottish Football Association this week as they assess the 46-year-old's fit-and-proper-person suitability to take charge of the club, following a previous conviction for organised crime offences and a six-and-a-half-year jail sentence back in 2008.

The last time the Lions beat Aberdeen in a top-flight match was back in April 2004 under former boss David Hay; Livingston have since drawn three and lost 12 times against the Dons.

A victory on Wednesday however could move Livingston six points behind Aberdeen, who currently sit in third place.

Aberdeen's unbeaten run of six matches came to an end last weekend as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to league leaders Rangers.

The Dons were dealt a blow just before the half-hour mark as Ryan Hedges was dismissed after he brought down Alfredo Morelos inside the penalty area, only for James Tavernier to miss the resulting spot kick.

However, Morelos went on to score a brace and despite Matty Kennedy pulling one back for the home side, Aberdeen were unable to snatch any points from the Gers.

As a result, Derek McInnes's men remain four points behind second-placed Celtic, who now have two games in hand on the Dons.

Aberdeen head into their clash with Livingston having won six of their last seven league meetings against them, including a 2-1 victory in August.

The Dons, who have lost only two of their last 14 league matches – both against Rangers – could secure their fifth away victory of the campaign with three points at the Toni Macaroni Stadium on Wednesday.

Team News

Livingston have three injury concerns heading into Wednesday's clash, with Keaghan Jacobs and Alan Lithgow expected to miss the game, while Jack Fitzwater remains a doubt.

Striker Scott Robinson, who started and scored in the victory against Ross County, is likely to remain in the side up front.

Aberdeen remain without midfielder Dylan McGeouch who is suffering with a groin problem, while defender Michael Devlin (ankle) and forward Marley Watkins (hamstring) are also ruled out with injuries.

Winger Ryan Hedges, who was sent off against the Gers, is suspended for the trip to Livingston.

Midfielder Ross McCrorie, who was unavailable to face his parent club Rangers last weekend, is likely to come back into the starting lineup at the expense of Dean Campbell.

Livingston possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Devlin, Ambrose, Guthrie, Serrano; Holt, Bartley; Mullin, Sibbald, Pittman; Robinson

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Hoban, Taylor, Considine; Kennedy, Ferguson, McCrorie, McGinn; Wright, Main, Cosgrove

We say: Livingston 1-1 Aberdeen

Livingston, who have scored only 11 goals at home this season, face an Aberdeen outfit who have found the net just nine times on the road. Both sides are looking towards the top end of the table but may have to settle for a draw on Wednesday evening.
