Goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Jordan Ayew kept Lorient on course for Ligue 1 survival as they came from behind to beat Caen 2-1 at the Stade du Moustoir this evening.
Guerreiro sought to test the Caen goal after 11 minutes and he came close to giving his side the lead with a long-range effort, only for Remy Vercoutre to make a smart stop down low.
Caen's hopes of earning a victory from the encounter took a blow on 19 minutes when Damien Da Silva produced a reckless tackle on Benjamin Jeannot, with the defender earning a straight red for his actions.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Caen took the lead in the 42nd minute through Herve Bazile, who caught hold of Nicolas Seube's through ball to finish past a helpless Benjamin Lecomte.
Their lead was not too last too long, however, as Lorient restored parity through Guerreiro just one minute later, with the defender converting into the centre of goal from Ayew's assist.
Lorient should have push ahead after the break, only for Ayew to drag wide to the right following Walid Mesloub's pass.
That miss was not to matter too much as Ayew returned in the 60th minute to rifle home a thunderous effort from distance into the bottom corner and earn his side a 2-1 victory.
