Lorient have moved up to ninth in the Ligue 1 table courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 win over Guingamp this evening.
The hosts took the lead after just eight minutes when Vincent Aboubakar found Yann Jouffre in the box, allowing the midfielder to pick out the bottom right corner with a well-placed shot.
It was 2-0 just four minutes later as Aboubakar again acted as provider, this time nodding the ball to Kevin Monnet-Paquet, who slammed his shot into the roof of the net.
Lorient came within inches of extending their lead even further in the 20th minute when Jeremie Aliadiere fired an effort towards the far corner, only to see it come back off the left post.
Guingamp looked for a response in the closing stages of the first half and almost found it when Lionel Mathis had a go from outside the area, but Florent Chaigneau was equal to the effort.
The hosts kept pushing for a third goal to kill the game off, and Alain Traore tested the keeper from range before Monnet-Paquet failed to steer his effort on target from a tight angle.
They were forced to settle for a 2-0 win in the end, however, as they climbed two places into the top half of the table.
