A Romain Hamouma goal two minutes from time has condemned 10-man Lorient to a 1-0 defeat against Saint-Etienne in their Ligue 1 clash at the Stade du Moustoir.
There was drama from the off as home goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte was shown a straight red card for a high foot within the first minute of the match.
The visitors fashioned the first chance of the game when Pierre-Yves Polomat's long-range effort in the fourth minute was saved by substitute stopper Florent Chaigneau.
Despite being down to 10 men for virtually the entirety of the game, the hosts held their own well for large periods and even weighed in with several dangerous chances of their own.
The disadvantage of being a man down, however, began to show for Lorient in the latter stages of the game, as the likes of Benjamin Corgnet, Florentin Pogba and Kevin Theophile-Catherine tried to force the issue.
Lorient's resistance was cruelly snuffed out with just two minutes left to play when Hamouma bore down on goal and side-footed the ball into the net to secure all three points for the visitors.
