Brazilian midfielder Juninho Pernambucano has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.
Vasco da Gama's president Roberto Dinamite confirmed the decision following the 4-0 win over Audax, which proved to be Juninho's final game for the club.
"I want to make the decision of Juninho Pernambucano official. During the week we already talked about it and he decided to call an end to his career," Dinamite revealed in a statement.
"On Monday, Juninho will make his farewell as an athlete of Vasco. He will give a press conference and journalists will be able to ask whatever they want."
Juninho was best known for his spell in Lyon, where he won seven Ligue 1 titles in eight years.
