Dinamo Zagreb have sacked coach Krunoslav Jurcic after their poor Champions League campaign ended with a 7-1 defeat at home to Lyon.
The loss left the Croatian club bottom of Group D, having obtained no points from their six matches.
"The board convened straight after the game and we decided to part company with Jurcic because this was an embarrassing end to our interest in Europe this season," said the club's executive director Zdravko Mamic.
"We have to find a way to make it up to the fans. This is not cheap talk, we had long-term plans with Jurcic and we discussed the future at lunch this afternoon."
Lyon's emphatic win saw them make an improbable leap into the knockout stages after Ajax were beaten 3-0 at home to Real Madrid.
Bafetimbi Gomis's four goals in 25 minutes helped the French side overturn a seven-goal swing to make it through to the next round.
