Manuel Pellegrini: 'Manchester City must win Champions League'

Manuel Pellegrini says that Manchester City must win the Champions League to be considered a great team.

Manuel Pellegrini has said that Manchester City must win the Champions League if they are to be considered a "great team".

City begin their Champions League campaign against Juventus on Tuesday and are yet to progress beyond the last 16 of the competition.

"It is impossible for you to be remembered as a great team if you do not win the Champions League," Pellegrini told reporters.

"Of course we have been a great team in England because it is not easy to win two titles in four years and be runners-up in the other two seasons.

"I am sure we will continue to be successful in the Premier League but, apart from Yaya, we didn't have players who have won a title in Europe. It isn't easy. There are strong teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, so it is very important to be lucky in the draw."

City will also play against Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach in Group D.
