Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry will play no part in England's Euro 2012 campaign after being sent home with a stomach injury.
The 31-year-old will be replaced by Everton's Phil Jagielka after a scan showed that the playmaker has suffered a tear in his abdomen.
Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson told the FA.com: "I'm very disappointed to lose Gareth, not only was he a member of my original 23-man squad but he has featured prominently in the England team over the last few years.
"I know how much he wanted to be part of the tournament but I'm sure he will still have a part to play with England after the Euros. I wish him a speedy recovery."
The former West Bromwich Albion coach has decided against calling up Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson.
