Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero admits that his side have fallen way short of their potential this season.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has admitted that his star-studded squad have failed to match their potential for large parts of this season.

The Blues are 15 points behind bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League and will almost certainly fail to defend their title.

Aguero believes that while reaching the FA Cup final is a special achievement, City have a side capable of competing on multiple fronts at their best.

When asked if lifting the cup was enough to make the campaign successful, the Argentine forward told The Sun: "In a sense, yes it does but in another you have to remember that we have a great team that is capable of fighting to win more trophies.

"We could have done better. We are too many points away from United in the league. It is a club that has not won a lot in the past and at least if we win one trophy then everything is good for the club."

Roberto Mancini's side return to Premier League action tomorrow night with a home match against cup final opponents Wigan Athletic.
