How Manchester City could line up against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for their crucial Premier League showdown with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

Manchester City will have the chance to close the gap at the top of the Premier League table back to four points when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night.

The champions could begin the game in third place should Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United on Sunday, while Liverpool's triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday saw then widen their lead to seven points.

However, City are in scintillating form, having scored an incredible 16 goals without reply in their last two games, and they will be favourites to make it five wins on the bounce in this match.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Pep Guardiola could line his side up for the contest.

Out: Benjamin Mendy (knee), Claudio Bravo (Achilles)
Doubtful: Sergio Aguero (ill), Vincent Kompany (muscle)

Sergio Aguero is a doubt for the match having been struggling with illness since the win over Liverpool, but he is expected to recover in time and should start despite Gabriel Jesus scoring four in midweek.

Vincent Kompany picked up a muscle strain against Liverpool too, and he is unlikely to be risked unless he is 100% with the likes of Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi as options.

Benjamin Mendy could make his return before the end of the month, but this game will come too soon for him and Guardiola must decide whether to continue with Oleksandr Zinchenko or move Laporte into a wider role as he did against Liverpool.

Kevin De Bruyne is now fit again and could start in a midfield trio alongside David Silva and Fernandinho, while Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling are expected to join Aguero in the front three.
