Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has applauded his team's effort following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the League Cup.
The Magpies boss conceded that Alvaro Negredo's opening goal in extra time is what sealed his side's fate.
"It was tough, I think my team couldn't have given any more and when you get the first goal in extra time it is always important, and we had a great chance but it fell away for us," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.
Edin Dzeko bagged the Sky Blues' second to set up quarter-final meeting with Leicester City.
