Erling Haaland broke yet another Premier League record during Manchester City's 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens' perfect start to the 2024-25 Premier League season was put under serious threat by the Bees, who took the lead at the Etihad Stadium inside the opening minute of play.

However, Pep Guardiola's blushes were spared thanks to a brace by the Norwegian goal machine, who levelled proceedings in the 19th minute and stuck away what turned out to be the winner just after the half-hour mark.

With that result, the defending league champions have taken the outright lead in the league standings with Liverpool suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Haaland secures another Premier League record

Haaland declined the chance to miss City's match against Brentford on compassionate leave after he lost a close family friend Ivar Eggja.

The Norwegian has made an incredible start to the season for the Citizens, netting seven goals in his first three matches, including back-to-back hat-tricks in his last two outings.

His brace against the Bees now takes him to nine goals for the season and earned him another mention in the record books, surpassing Wayne Rooney's record of eight goals in the first four matches in a Premier League campaign.

Rooney's record remained unbeaten for a total of 13 years after achieving the incredible feat for Manchester United at the start of the 2011-12 league season.

Haaland had already set the record for the most goals scored by a player in the first three matches of a Premier League season after his hat-trick against West Ham United.

Another feather to the cap for City's talisman

Haaland is no stranger to breaking records and his latest feat merely adds to an already incredible list of accomplishments since arriving in Manchester.

The Norwegian became the fastest player ever to reach 50 Premier League goals, achieving the milestone in just 48 matches.

In comparison, Andy Cole took 65 games, Alan Shearer 66, Ruud van Nistelrooy 68, and both Mohamed Salah and Fernando Torres needed 72 appearances to reach their half-centuries.

Haaland has also scored against all 23 opponents he has faced in the Premier League, with Ipswich Town being the most recent team he added to his list.

Additionally, the 24-year-old holds the record for the most goals in a single Premier League season during his debut campaign with Man City, netting 36 goals in 35 appearances, surpassing the previous record of 34 goals held by Cole and Shearer, who both achieved it in 42-game seasons. body check tags ::
